Im planning on selling my laptop. How do I take off all the programs and delete all the information I have stored on here without getting rid of the necessities? How do I deleate all the personal information from my computer?Don't listen to the smartie above me. That won't erase what is on your hard drive.
You need to do a hard drive re-format. Even then, a good computer person could retrieve the deleted info if they wanted.
Your safest bet is to sell the computer sans the hard drive, which I don't know if you can do in a laptop. How do I deleate all the personal information from my computer?

Reformat it, using an operating system disk, or go to documents, highlight everything in your account, (My computer -%26gt; Local Disk C -%26gt; Documents -%26gt; "Your name of the user" -%26gt; DELETE!) next go to program files and wipe that out ( My computer -%26gt; C drive -%26gt; Program files -%26gt; Delete!!!) Next, everything that looks put in by the user, files and folders not consisting of Windows or System, if the person you sell it to needs a folder, he or she may make one, if they need a file they can go download it, everything that came with the computer can be installed.
Tip: Be as specific and detailed as you can. Use any personal experience or knowledge you might have.
You can use research to help support your answer.
Re-install your operating system (assuming it is Windows), follow the instructions below:
1. Get access to your Windows (95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista) Installation Disk. Insert it into your CD-ROM drive and reboot the computer.
2. Right before the Windows logo appears that it is loading (usually right after the factory logo, ie. Dell) repeatedly press F12 until you get a boot menu.
3. Select to boot from your CD-ROM device (or DVD drive--whichever the installation disk is inside) and hit enter.
4. You may need to hit enter again to start the autorun files.
5. Follow the instructions on your screen to do a clean installation of Windows
**IMPORTANT**: it is recommended that you delete all your files from your hard drive before you do a clean installation. Be sure to backup files that you may find useful or otherwise need in the future. To delete, select files and press delete. Then empty from Recycle Bin.
