What information is recorded in a passport number?

and why do we get different passport numbers when we change our old passport for a new one? although i notice that your date of birth is still in the new number?

and what information is stored in the new biometric chip about you?

Just curious! What information is recorded in a passport number? My passport number does not contain my date of birth. I always thought the passport number that was issued was merely the next number in the sequence i.e. current passport number = last passport number plus one.

I would assume that the passport office issues a new number so that the information provided for your previous passport is still retained. If the same passport number is issued, then the info held under that number would hae to be overwritten with the new info. Keeping new and old info would be useful for combating passport fraud.

The chip stores your photo and the details that are printed in passport. What information is recorded in a passport number? There will be every bit of information on you.
