How do I change my direct deposit information on file so I make sure I get my stimulus payment?

My checking account information has changed since I filed my taxes this year b/c of some fraudulent transactions so that account that I received my tax refund with is no longer open. How do I change my direct deposit information on file so I make sure I get my stimulus payment? You can't. The funds will go there and be sent back to IRS since the account is closed. IRS will then issue a paper check and mail to your address of record. Expect this process to take at least six weeks longer than a direct deposit.

You might call IRS and ask them--just in case they have a system in place I haven't heard about. How do I change my direct deposit information on file so I make sure I get my stimulus payment?
Talk to your bank, they might be able to link the two account numbers so the rebate automatically transfers. Other than that, you'd have to wait for the bank to bounce it back to the IRS and then for the IRS to mail you a check. You can't change the direct deposit info with the IRS now for the stimulus payment. How do I change my direct deposit information on file so I make sure I get my stimulus payment?Use a Form 8822

I don't believe you can. You can try calling the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 but I doubt you can change that information. What will typically happen is that the IRS will attempt a direct deposit to the original account. If the direct deposit fails, it goes back to the IRS and they cut and mail a check to the address listed on your return. How do I change my direct deposit information on file so I make sure I get my stimulus payment?Every bank sends you a tax form for you taxes, just take it to whoever does your taxes, they will either put a copy of each with your return and that is all you need to do, or just call someone like H%26amp;R Block and ask them. Do not waste your time calling the IRS--you would sit on hold for HOURS just to tell the assistor that you want them to turn off the Direct Deposit on your account and force a paper check for the stimulus.
