How do you obtain the correct nutritional information to put on food?

I am starting a candy business and will sell the candy in boxes. I want to make sure I get the correct nutritional information. I went to the USDA nutrition database and entered toffee but the list was a mile long. How do I go about putting only what is needed as far as nutrition values? How do you obtain the correct nutritional information to put on food? The nutritional panel labeling law is administered by the FDA, not the USDA. You will need to work with the FDA.

You can start on their webpage at: http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceComplian鈥?/a>

This isn't something you can just make up on your own - you need data to support it, and the nutritional facts label (if required for your product) must be in an approved format. All of that information is on the FDA website.

This is not something you should do on your own - whoever you are distributing through should be able to refer you to someone who does these types off things professionally. I know around here, the University has a lab that does a lot of the testing. How do you obtain the correct nutritional information to put on food?go to a site like http://www.calorieking.com and imput your recipe and the size of each piece measured on a scale and it will give you the correct nutrition information. Then you must go back to the USDA or another lab to have it analysed and certified. This takes a lot of time and some expense.

Always get the certification before printing your labels!! You don't need to print that on the label, but you do need it, for USDA purposes, in your files.
