What can I do if confidential medical information has been wrongfully shared?

So my boyfriend recently told me his psychiatrist went into my psychiatrists files and found/shared confidential information about me to my boyfriend that I didn't even know myself. I am very upset about the situation, and am curious if anyone knows what steps I should take to make this right and how to deal with this situation. Thanks! What can I do if confidential medical information has been wrongfully shared?Your boyfriend is not telling you the truth.

If your doctors are in the US, the doctor did not have access to the other doctor's confidential files to start with, and certainly did not share confidential information from another doctor's patient files with his patient.

You asked: "...what steps I should take to make this right and how to deal with this situation..." I'd start with finding a boyfriend who is a little more credible.

On the outside chance that there is even a glimmer of truth to this story, you can sue his doctor for malpractice, and your doctor for failure to secure your confidential treatment files.

- StuartWhat can I do if confidential medical information has been wrongfully shared?Your psychiatrist didn't HAVE confidential information about you that you didn't know yourself. Even if they did, your boyfriend's psychiatrist would not have access to the files. I would inform YOUR psychiatrist that you have reason to believe your boyfriend is lying about his psychiatrist and give permission to disclose THAT statement to your boyfriend's psychiatrist. What can I do if confidential medical information has been wrongfully shared?your bf is lying to you. a Dr cant just walk in to a different Dr's office and get a file from their shelves. its not logical. there has to be some other way that HE found out the information. but it didnt happen this way.

edit: even if they are on the computer im SURE that there is some sort of password that you have to put in to log into the computer and if you are not a doctor of a specific patient then you will have to have specific special permission, his psych couldnt have possibly just gotten onto the computer and looked at your file without permission or without getting caught. its virtually impossible what your bf is saying to you! What can I do if confidential medical information has been wrongfully shared?
Speak to your psychiatrist about it. I don't believe it happened and I believe your friend is telling you a lie. It's against the law to do that.
