Is it illegal for colleges to share billing information with other students?

I got an email that said.....



There is a registration hold on your academic record due to a balance on your student account. You may view your account by clicking on the student info tab in your account, clicking on the billing tab and clicking on the statement window. Please contact our office if you need assistance in understanding your bill.



The email also included about 40 other students email adresses for students who also had a balance.

The other email addresses should have been hidden. I suggest you forward this email to the head of the financial services department and point out that they accidentally released privileged information, and request that all future communications they send be confidential. They can't undo the mistake, but whoever sent that email in the first place will get in trouble at work, and they'll make sure it doesn't happen again.Is it illegal for colleges to share billing information with other students?you need to contact the dean of student services to make an appointment.
